The conference brings together artists and scientists, designers, educators, and researchers. We seek to understand human creativity in its many manifestations, to design new interactive techniques and tools to augment and amplify human creativity, and to use computational media technologies to explore new creative processes and artifacts in all human endeavors ranging from the arts to science, from design to education.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\">\u00a0<\/h3>\n<h3><b>What is a C&amp;C Tutorial?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tutorials allow C&amp;C attendees, including practitioners who might not usually attend an academic conference, to extend their knowledge beyond their current area(s) of expertise. The aim is that they help people to:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1) explore new methods, techniques, and practices,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2) develop new skills in order to innovate, and\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">3) become inspired to pursue new ideas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Participants will include creative professionals who can utilize the rich knowledge that the C&amp;C communities have applied in their businesses and organizations, including industry managers, practitioners, students and researchers. Tutorials can be designed for novices, experts, or audiences with general interest (the expected audience should be clear in the proposal).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We encourage submissions which offer interactive and participatory methods, and which aim to engage the wider community in the field. We encourage submissions which seek to go beyond solely academic audiences, for example through engaging practitioners.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How are submissions evaluated?<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Content is rigorously juried by the committee for suitability as a tutorial, and interest to the community.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When do tutorials occur?<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Tutorials will run for a full day on June 23, 2024, which is the day before the main conference track. One-day registrations will be available for participants who wish to attend only tutorials.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\">\u00a0<\/h3>\n<h3><b>What\u2019s the Difference Between a Tutorial and a Workshop?\u00a0<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tutorials are run by expert instructors, typically with established reputations, teaching people who are new to a topic or who want to align or intersect their practice with the latest academic research.\u00a0 In contrast, workshops are meetings of experts exploring new knowledge together.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\">\u00a0<\/h3>\n<h3><b>What Topics can Tutorials Cover?\u00a0<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tutorials are open to a variety of topics.\u00a0 To spark some ideas, here are three themes for this conference.\u00a0 Submissions may reference one or more themes, or address an entirely new area.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><i>Theme 1: Welcome to Creativity and Cognition:<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While the work presented at C&amp;C spans many methods, domains, and topics, there are some common underlying topics that often show up.\u00a0 To help new members of the community find their feet, or experienced members brush up on a different area from their usual, these tutorials might cover foundational methods, theories, or tools we might see at the conference.\u00a0 For example, you might choose to share your expertise in:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cognitive science methods<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Metrics and techniques for evaluating creativity<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Qualitative data analysis tools and theories<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">etc.<\/span>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><i>Theme 2: The Practitioner&#8217;s Practices<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">C&amp;C is a conference that brings together artists and scientists, designers, educators, and researchers.\u00a0 Tutorials can offer insight into what creativity and cognition practice looks like beyond the conference, and how the topics we discuss here are applied in the real world.\u00a0 For example, you might choose to share your expertise in:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Digital design tools<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Leadership in a changing world as creative process<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Creative applications of emerging technologies<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">etc.<\/span><\/span>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><i>Theme 3: Organic Creative Spaces<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This year\u2019s overall conference theme is <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">organic creative spaces, <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright\u2019s Organic Architecture. Defined as both a philosophy and a practice in the architecture discipline, organic architecture uses minimalist forms, materials, spaces and design considerations that blend with their natural environments. These may vary from the digital sphere (Gather in 2023) to a physical one (a gallery space in 2024), but both platforms encourage the re-invention, re-interpretation, and re-situating of materials to span our most occupied creative spaces and the way they are realized in community and collective practice.\u00a0 Tutorials that embrace this theme might teach participants to:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Design with particular materials, whether physical or digital<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Engage in situated or community-engaged design methods<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">etc.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>\u00a0<\/h3>\n<h3><b>Registration Discount\u00a0\u00a0<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tutorials provide significant value to our community\u2014they are an opportunity for organizers to share their expertise and wisdom with the C&amp;C community.
