As a presenter, there are steps you can take to ensure that your message can be heard and understood by the widest possible audience. The following guidelines draw from and extend Kyle Rector\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sigaccess.org\/welcome-to-sigaccess\/resources\/accessible-presentation-guide\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Accessible Presentation Guide<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Please refer there for more details.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When designing your slides, please:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Use a large font (size 18+) and adequate <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/webaim.org\/resources\/contrastchecker\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">color contrast<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Use minimal text on each slide.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Check that slides are suitable for color blind audience members. Consider using a simulator like <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.color-blindness.com\/coblis-color-blindness-simulator\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Colblinder<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Add accurate closed captions to embedded videos.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When presenting your slides to the audience, please:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Turn on and test auto-captions before you present (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/docs\/answer\/9109474?hl=en\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Google Slides<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/office\/present-with-real-time-automatic-captions-or-subtitles-in-powerpoint-68d20e49-aec3-456a-939d-34a79e8ddd5f\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Microsoft PPT<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Speak clearly into the microphone. Please test and adjust before you begin. Be careful not to turn your head away as you speak when, for example, referring to the projection.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Speak at your normal speed, unless a sign language interpreter asks you to slow down.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Speak every word on the slide, or otherwise verbally cover all the information.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Avoid using jargon or regionally-based idioms that may confuse an international audience.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Use the room\u2019s speakers to process any audio in your presentation, to help make it audible to hard of hearing audience members.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Verbalize a description of the diagrams, photos, and videos in your presentation which are used to convey important information (not just decorative).
