Abstract:
A half-day tutorial which takes place in the main venue. Participants learn the very basic step of quantum computing to learn how to use quantum computing as a creative material. They will use the organizer’s own research output, Quantum Brush desktop application and MicroMoth library. Participants not only get cognitive achievements but actively engage in a mini hackathon with these tools to make their own use-cases of creative quantum computing artifacts.

This tutorial will be hosted at the Museum of the Home and is open to all conference registrants.
Abstract:
This hands-on tutorial introduces a design-led methodology for exploring technological futures and how they might shape our lives and surroundings. Based on the Interaction Research Studio’s experience creating the Room of the Future at London’s Museum of the Home, we share our approach to imagining domestic life in 2049 in the museum itself, allowing participants to experience the installation first-hand. Participants will learn our semi-structured methodology for combining worldbuilding, character development, and storytelling to explore how current trends – such as AI, climate change, and changing patterns of work and home life – might manifest as designed artefacts. In hands-on group sessions, participants will use collage and found imagery as tools for sensemaking and interpretation to develop their own future scenarios and proposals for interactive devices. Participants will leave with practical experience and an adaptable approach for creating design fictions and proposals that are imaginative yet grounded in real-life concerns.
